Exercise normal safety and security precautions

Overview

Some things that New Zealanders travelling or living in Portugal should be aware of are:

  • Crime - watch out for petty crime, such as theft, especially in major cities like Lisbon and Porto
  • Civil unrest - demonstrations and protests occur regularly and can disrupt traffic and public transportation
  • Parts of Portugal can experience extreme temperatures in the summer months, which can lead to large fires.

New Zealanders travelling or living in Portugal should have a comprehensive travel insurance policy in place that includes provision for medical evacuation by air.
