Avoid non-essential travel

Overview

The security situation in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories remains unpredictable. While a ceasefire between Israel and Iran is in place, tensions in the region remain high and there is an ongoing risk of further military conflict. The situation could deteriorate with little or no warning.

New Zealanders are advised to:

  • Remain security conscious at all times.
  • Be aware of bomb shelter locations and download mobile apps to receive alerts for rocket attacks.
  • Monitor local media and official sources for updates.
  • Prepare a contingency plan.
  • Register with SafeTravel and ensure emergency contact information is up to date.
  • Read our advice about staying safe during violence or conflict

Commercial flights have resumed in Israel. However, transportation, particularly flights, may be disrupted at short notice, including due to airspace closures. Travellers should contact travel providers or airlines about air and land transport options and availability, and have contingency plans in place.

If there is an attack or military conflict, take immediate shelter, follow instructions of local authorities, and monitor local media and Israel's National Emergency Portal (accessible in Israel only) for updates.

There is a heightened threat of terrorism throughout Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories. Attacks may occur at any time and in any location. New Zealanders are advised to be vigilant, especially during public and religious holidays and anniversaries, and avoid large gatherings and demonstrations.

New Zealanders travelling or residing in Israel or the Occupied Palestinian Territories should ensure they have comprehensive travel insurance which includes provision for medical evacuation by air. You should check that your policy covers travel to Israel or the Occupied Palestinian Territories, as exclusions may apply.
